The World, European and Portuguese Evangelical Alliances  submit a report on the religious situation in Portugal for the 47th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

Christians need to face the crisis with maturity and without getting carried away by political preferences.

Globally, some 65 million people have been displaced this year, roughly equivalent to Britain’s whole population.

A 2012 UNHCR document by António Guterres already highlighted the central role faith-based organisations play in “making solutions sustainable by helping refugees integrate in their new communities.”

Most of the people came via Greece, which took in more than 820,000 people this year. Half of them were Syrians.

In all, more than 650,000 refugees and migrants have crossed the Mediterranean to Europe this year and at least 3,135 have died en route, according to UNHCR.

“Refugees are desperate and try to go to countries where they believe Human Rights are respected”, said UNHRC spokesperson María Jesús Vega in a interview. Summer will be a very critical season.
