The Church of Scotland falls from 32% to 20% in only one decade. Roman Catholics represent 13% while “other Christians” remain at 5%.

The Kirk has begun official procedures to investigate the status and the role of the Westminster Confession of Faith within its denomination.

The moves could see the Confession being removed, replaced or changed in as little as 5 years - a significant development for the minority group of evangelicals who remain in Scotland’s national Kirk.

About 390’000 people attend a Christian church in Scotland. The growth of Pentecostals and free evangelicals is not enough to stop the decline of the other denominations.

The General Assembly of the Church of Scotland has voted to allow ministers to continue to serve if they are in a gay marriage.
