The Polish evangelical magazine Słowo Prawdy (Word of Truth) celebrated its 100th anniversary.
“You can only attend a centennial jubilee once”, with these words, the current editor-in-chief of Słowo Prawdy (Word of Truth), Remigiusz Neumann, opened the festive event.
Although the first issue was published in the winter of February 1925, we had the great pleasure of participating in the extraordinary celebration of the jubilee year on May 10th.
Remembering that the goal of this monthly magazine is to point to the one and inspired Word of Truth – God’s Word – Andrzej Seweryn shared a reflection on the Word written by inspired authors.
A historical overview, also referring to other evangelical magazines, was presented by Włodzimierz Tasak.
An important element of the event was a prayer of thanksgiving led by Brother Konstanty Wiazowski. The current director of Słowo Prawdy, Remigiusz Neumann spoke about the current editorial work, the changes that have been introduced, and the plans for future development.
Each of the brothers who appeared on stage during the official part of the celebration had once served as editor-in-chief of Słowo Prawdy, which gave the event a special character, emphasizing the passage of time, the tremendous effort invested in this undertaking, as well as the brotherly fellowship and the handing down of responsibility to the next generation.
As a proofreader, perhaps more connected with the Słowo Prawdy publishing house than with the magazine itself, I had the privilege of attending the event with my husband.
After the deeply moving official part and the beautiful songs led by Paulina and Szymon Stateczny, we shared a meal together and listened to testimonies from past and present authors, editors, and friends of the magazine.
During this time, the theme of God’s faithfulness and His perfect guidance of imperfect people rang especially clear. Testimonies of struggles with various challenges, as well as faithful service for God’s Kingdom, were deeply touching and inspiring.
Nevertheless, it is impossible not to mention the underlying voice of concern about the crisis of readership and the decreasing involvement of individual congregations in collectively creating and recording the story of God’s work in our times.
However, this is not discouraging, but rather refreshing and motivating, to make use of every opportunity and possibility, and to share with future generations how faithfully God leads His Church.
May this also serve as an encouragement for us to boldly spread the Word of Truth – and the Słowo Prawdy that points to it.
