The Alliance of Iberoamerican Christian communicators launched

The group is an initiative of the Congress for Life and Family and aims to be an influential voice in the public sphere throughout Ibero-America.

Last 21 May, around 30 Christian communicators from different Ibero-American countries met via Zoom for the presentation of a project from the communications area of the Ibero-American Congress for Life and the Family (C.Iber).

The proposal is an Alliance of Christian Communicators (ADECOM), which mainly seeks to coordinate and build bridges not only among the communicators themselves, but especially with society, a task that C.Iber has been carrying out for 12 years.

A Christian view of current affairs

Aarón Lara, founder and president of C.Iber, and Jorge Márquez, member of its Board of Directors, attended the meeting.

Lara presented the work carried out by C.Iber at various levels. The main and best-known is its formal presence at the Organisation of American States (OAS), where it has influenced laws to make them fairer and more in line with Christian values.

He also explained how they have created various platforms linked to C.Iber, including the Ibero-American Union of Christian Politicians, a Study Centre and Training School, and a pro-life Ibero-American youth group among others.

ADECOM expects that the different communicators, media and platforms will collaborate intentionally with the Board of Directors of C.Iber to pursue their aims, providing a Christian vision on issues such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, homicides (including femicides) the challenges of AI, and many more.

“Being loudspeakers”

Pedro Tarquis, president of Areópago Protestante, stressed the importance of independent communicators as “loudspeakers” rather than 'spokespersons' for institutions, since society generally sees institutional communication as propaganda with little credibility.

“It is essential to be a bridge not only between evangelicals, but also with society, to interact, and at the same time influence”,he said.

Like other C.Iber projects, ADECOM would have autonomy of management and operation, although “it would be linked to the direction of the Ibero-American Congress Board of Directors”. There would also be working groups in each country.

Collaboration

Afterwards, César Vidal, a well-known communicator, speaker and creator of the radio program La Voz (The Voice), spoke about his model, explaining that it does not have to be “a unique experience, nor applicable to all media and communicators”.

He recounted his career in the USA, after directing high-profile programmes in Spain, from which he left for good following two serious death threats.

Vidal stressed the importance of being salt and light, always putting the Gospel, the Kingdom of God, and ethical principles above money, power, and anything else.

He encouraged the participants to “learn to help each other, pray for each other, support each other and collaborate to the best of our ability, without jealousy or rivalry”.

Why ADECOM?

During the question-and-answer session, many asked why create a new platform for Christian communicators when there are already others with recognised experience, prestige and success that offer training, cooperation, fraternal relationships and content exchange.

The organisers responded that the core idea differs from that of other organisations, as it is about networking with C.Iber's vision and mission, especially by promoting its work in social and political activism "in a transversal way, without aligning itself with a specific sector".

This symbiosis of influence towards society and the political scene in different countries is new, as well as a necessity that would result in non-distorted images of evangelicals and evangelical churches.

“The C.Iber generates news every day in the 21 countries where it is represented, which often do not even transcend the scope of the country where they occur, let alone reach public knowledge on the continent”, said Lara.

Furthermore, “through the Ibero-American Union of Christian Parliamentarians, ADECOM members could access legislators from 16 countries to amplify the efforts made practically anonymously”.

Official presentation

The official presentation and the founding act of ADECOM will take place at the Congress that C.Iber will hold from 18-20 June in Montevideo (Uruguay).
