The tropical storm has caused “a catastrophic situation” in the fourth city of the USA. Thousands have been rescued from their homes.
The State of Texas (USA) is facing the consequences of tropical storm ‘Harvey’. Houston, the fourth biggest city of the country, has been hugely affected.
Greg Abbott, Governor of the State, said the floodings will have “catastrophic” consequences in the region. Thousands of citizens have been rescued from their homes.
So far, 10 people have died and an estimated 30,000 will seek emergency shelter. About 2,500 found refuge in a convention centre, according to the Red Cross.
As waters still rise, authorities already described the situation as “one of the largest disasters America has ever faced”.
The Governor warned recovery will take years, and people need to assume that there will be “a new different normal for the entire region”.
On Sunday, many of the churches in the cities cancelled their worship services, and Christians have called to pray and take action as volunteers to help alleviate the tragic situation. Several evangelical leaders have reported live on Facebook on the situation in their neighbourhoods.
