In Latin America, Easter is an important celebration for evangelicals, who live it with devotion.

Although this holiday is mostly associated with the Roman Catholic Church, evangelicals also have their own traditions and ways of celebrating it.

Evangelical Christians, in general, do not have a common standard way of commemorating the last days of Jesus' life, which is referred to as Holy Week, mainly by the Roman Catholic Church.

Special services, evangelism and charity events

During Easter, Latin American evangelicals gather in their churches to celebrate special services and commemorate the death, but above all the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In those services, there is worship, prayer and biblical reflections that recall Christ's sufferings on the cross and his victory over death.

The pastor of the Central Assemblies of God church in Los Alcarrizos in the Dominican Republic, Alfredo Ygnacio de la Cruz, explained that evangelicals do a wide variety of things during Easter week.

Some congregations take advantage of the space to do evangelistic activities, show Christian films, hold congresses or camps for young people; but other than that, "nothing special" or "out of the ordinary".

In other places, they hold open-air plays that recreate the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. These performances are often very moving and are designed to convey the biblical message to the wider community.

It is also common for evangelicals to organise charity events during Easter. Many churches organise food and clothing drives for the needy, and make visits to hospitals and nursing homes to bring a message of hope and comfort to the sick and elderly.

For Latin American evangelicals, Easter is generally a time of reflection and devotion. The church members seek to strengthen their faith and transmit the biblical message to the community.
