The US International Commission on Religious Freedom warns in its annual report that several governments have engaged in the repression of religious minorities.

France, Spain, Germany and Ukraine are mentioned in the 2023 USCIRF report, which was criticised  for its way of addressing the persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

Human rights organisations denounce that dozens of Christian places of worship have been destroyed in the last year.

The entity was created by the government of Imran Khan. Pakistani Christians say it “quotes and voices the minority issues, but it has not real power” to protect them. 

Harvard, Princeton and Yale experts say the prosecution of the Christian parliamentarian for incitement against homosexuals “will compel Finland’s lay religious believers to choose between prison and abandoning teachings of their various faiths”.

The US Commission on International Religious Freedom has analysed the effects of blasphemy laws worldwide between 2014-18. 11% of the blasphemy-related incidents took place in Europe.

“The state shall not establish an official religion. No citizen shall be discriminated based on their religion”, the new agreement between the government and the rebels says.

The US Commission for International Religious Freedom asks for the release of pastor Jesus Quinones, and the right of Cuban parents to “raise their children pursuant to their own faith”.

“These closures are a clear hindrance to the free practice and exercise of religion”, the politicians say in a letter to the Algerian President.

The task force, which has come to light more than six years after the Supreme Court forced its constitution, has already drawn criticism.

Civil society reports estimate that in 2017 alone at least 50 individuals were imprisoned on charges of blasphemy, with at least 17 facing possible death sentences.

The prosecution failed to present even one witness against Pervaiz Masih. In December, two Christian brothers were sentenced to death under Pakistan’s blasphemy law.

Pastor of Early Rain Covenant Church in Chengd, Wang Yi, was  detained for allegedly “inciting subversion of state power”.

The first 5 countries of the list are all Muslim-majority lands. Italy ranks 7. “Religious freedom includes the right to express a full range of beliefs”, USCIRF report says.

Syria, Central African Republic, Egypt, Iraq, and Vietnam are also among the “countries of particular concern.” For the first time, Western Europe is in the list as a place that “deserve monitoring.”
