“The country needs an independent justice, care for natural resources and a better social security system”, Pastor Flavio Rosario said.
Members of the Church of God of the Prophecy in the Dominican Republic took the streets to protest against the corruption in the Caribbean nation.
The Christians marched through Santo Domingo, the country’s capital city, after the national congress of this evangelical church, to ask the authorities to better fight this ulcer that affects all areas of society.
According to Transparency International, the Dominican Republic is the 135th most corrupt country in the world (out of 183), and one of the worst in Latin America.
The Christians leading the march publicly proclaimed their “faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour of the Dominican Republic”.
“This country needs independent justice, a parliament that serves as a counterweight to the government, the rule of law, separation of powers, care for natural resources, and a better social security system”, Pastor Flavio Rosario said.
The National Supervisor of the evangelical denomination also called all churches to become agents of support to their communities, offering literacy programs, promotion of peace, help to marriages and families, help to street children and prevention against domestic violence.
FED UP WITH CORRUPTION
Other social groups have also demonstrated against high levels of corruption in the country lately. Leaders of the transportation sector said: “Corruption in the State organisms has reached the point of persecuting and killing those who stand up against the thieves of public resources”.
