New law could officialise same-sex civil unions and give right to adoption in specific cases. Evangelical pastor Stefano Bogliolo: “If we put our hands on the architrave of a society, the family, sooner or later the building will collapse.”
A big “Family Day” will gather hundreds of thousands in Rome on Saturday. Evangelical Christians will be among those going to the streets under the motto: “Let’s defend our children.”
Organisers hope that expect “around one million people” will join the demonstration.
Evangelical pastor and Italian Evangelical Alliance (AEI) board member Stefano Bogliolo told Evangelical Focus: “We decided to take part in the rally in Rome. It is organised by several associations (most of them are Roman Catholic, but also of other religions or non-believers) who are committed to defend the original family.”
“As evangelicals we are committed to show what the original pattern is, ‘according to the pattern shown God showed on the mountain’ (Exodus 25:40)”.
Is it an anti-gay demonstration? “Our position is not against anyone”, Bogliolo said, “because we are called to receive every kind of person, and there is no difference by sins. Our goal is to admonish our parliament not to change the Constitution, which considers the family as the union and weeding of a man and a woman.”
SAME-SEX CIVIL UNIONS POLITICAL DEBATE BEGINS
These days the Senate is starting to discuss the new law on same-sex civil unions. The draft will only include the right for same-sex unions to adopt birth children of one's partner.
The political debate has brought a great polarisation both among the parties and in society.
PRO-GAY DEMONSTRATIONS GATHER MANY
One week ago, LGBT associations organised 98 simultaneous demonstrations across the country, in which they gathered “one million people” according to Arcigay secretary Gabriele Piazzoni.
They also asked “the parliament to listens to us” and sang the slogan “Italy, it is time to weak up.”
NEW LAW WILL “ERASE MARRIAGE” IN THE LONG TERM
Bogliolo believes the new law “is like a marriage institution.” It “will finally erase marriage as we know it today. This is the final goal of the gay lobby.”
“Our concern is that if we put our hands on the architrave of a society, namely the family based on the marriage, sooner or later, all the building will collapse.”
“To those who say: ‘more freedom to others will not limit your freedom’, we answer that since we live in this country, which is also our home, we are concerned thinking that in doing so, we will leave to our children and grandchildren a pile of rubble.”
“CHILDREN HAVE RIGHT TO FATHER AND MOTHER”
“Children have the right to have a father and a mother”, most Italian evangelicals defend.
“Children are conceived by a man and a woman, and by bypassing this limit they will be forced to resort to the surrogacy, as it already is happening, even though it is forbidden in Italy.“n case the child is fruit of a previous marriage, that child has another parent, who should be interested.”
Hundreds of Italian evangelical Christians already actively participated in a previous “For the family” demonstration in June.
