German police officers unexpectedly found a Luther Bible printed in 1634. This rarity was found in a police check in the city of Lübeck (Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany).
The copy is leather-bound and has handwritten inscriptions. According to the information found in the first pages, it was produced in the Stern'schen Druckerei print.
About 60 copies of this Bible were produced in this print after it was established in 1614.
Although the finding has been made public now, the police found it in August and suspects it was stolen. They are still searching for its legitimate owner.
Expert Wolfgang Schellmann exaplined there have been no auctions of similar Bibles in the last 20 years.
