Bible verses about homosexuality

One thing I’ve noticed amongst the so-called ‘believers’ that support gay marriage in particular and homosexuality in general is that they seem to have very little respect for Holy Scripture.

FRESH BREEZE AUTOR 18/Will_Graham 13 DE JULIO DE 2015 15:31 h

I must confess that I’ve been somewhat surprised to encounter confessing Christians promoting the pro-gay agenda over the past few years. When I first came to faith in Christ, I thought certain things were so crystal clear in the Word of God that it would be nigh on impossible to misinterpret them. I mean black and white issues like stealing, lust, idolatry and… wait for it!… homosexuality.

So, is gay ok? What does the Bible say?

Today I just want to list some portions of Scripture that speak directly about homosexual relationships. One thing I’ve noticed amongst the so-called ‘believers’ that support gay marriage in particular and homosexuality in general is that they seem to have very little respect for Holy Scripture. That fact alone has aroused my suspicions and set alarm bells ringing in my theological mind. Let’s not forget that the Christian church is built upon the Word of Jesus, the Messiah; not upon the opinions of self-conceited twenty-first century Westerners. If they speak not according to this Word, as the prophet said, it is because there is no light in them (Isaiah 8:20).

Let’s see what the Bible says, then. Here goes! Enjoy the ride!

1.- Genesis 19:1-11 To cut a long story short, two angels of the Lord struck the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah with instantaneous blindness for attempting to gang-rape them.

2.- Leviticus 18:22, “You shall not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is abomination”.

3.- Leviticus 20:13, “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them”.

4.- Deuteronomy 23:17, “There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel”.

5.- Judges 19:16-24 This passage shows the perverted sexual antics of a group of Benjamites who wanted to gang-rape a man. Their sinful longings were condemned as wickedness.

6.- 1 Kings 14:24, “And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel”.

7.- 1 Kings 15:11-12, “And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did David his father. And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his father had made”.

8.- 1 Kings 22:43, 46, “And Jehoshaphat walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the Lord […] and the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land”.

9.- 2 Kings 23:3, 7, “And the King stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant. […] And he broke down the houses of the sodomites that were by the house of the Lord”.

Well, maybe you’re saying to yourself at this point: “That’s just the Old Testament. It is no longer binding for those of us who live under grace”. Here’s a quick snap of the New Testament’s perspective on gayness. Let’s call it the grace perspective:

10.- Romans 1:26-27, “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet”.

11.- 1 Corinthians 6:9, “Don’t you know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the Kingdom of God? Be not deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind”.

12.- 1 Timothy 1:10-11, “Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners […] for whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind”.

13.- Judas 7, “Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire”.

14.- It’s quite likely that the references to whoremongers in Ephesians 5:5, Hebrews 13:4, Revelation 21:8 and 22:15 refer specifically to the sin of homosexuality. In all four cases, they fall directly under the fierce judgment of the Almighty for such immorality.

I honestly don’t think I have to add any personal comments today. I’ll just let the Word of God speak for itself. I wouldn’t want anyone to accuse me of misinterpreting Scripture…

Gee that was like shooting fish in a barrel !!! WooHoo! Problem is, the references to alternative Christian views were not accurate. Faith that ends up positive about gay folks typically starts with a face to face weighing of modern human sciences, LGBTQ variations are not defects or damage as it happens to be, empirically. A well tested hypothesis upsets our negative legacy beliefs. Is the Bible flat earth in this area? Are our assumptions off-key?

This is not a question of methodology Artsy. It's a question of content. Everybody knows we must love gay people and help them. But the matter at stake here is: what does God say? Can people get married to a partner of the same gender and call upon the name of the Lord to bless them? That's the real issue.

I disagree. I think a Christian who supports gay marriage may not themselves agree with the stance, however they my simply be trying to find a way to embrace the lesbian and gay community as well. I do not agree or disagree with it either way. I do think the greater issue growing with in the church is that we need to accept these people too. Yes they sin, we all sin. The laws have already passed, how can we accept these people and show Christ's love as He calls us to do in scripture?
