Don’t live off yesterday’s manna

The importance of keeping up-to-date with God.

FRESH BREEZE AUTOR 18/Will_Graham 11 DE FEBRERO DE 2017 10:00 h

God’s provision is a sign of His goodness and kindness. He gives us food and water, sunlight and rain, families and friends, hopes and dreams. He never tires of supplying our endless needs. What a precious Lord!

As we read the Bible we realize that God also took care of His people as they were advancing through the desert. God gave good gifts that blessed the Israelites and protected them in the wilderness. One such present was a little bread-like substance called manna.

The deal was the following: God promised to send manna every morning on the condition that everyone took only as much as they needed for their families. The manna would provide the Hebrews with strength and vigour to keep marching on towards the Promised Land.

There was another tiny stipulation as well: no one could eat yesterday’s manna (save on the Sabbath Day).

God decreed that ‘yesterday’s manna’ would become corrupt and worm-infested if anyone tried to store it up for safekeeping. The Lord’s command was that manna was to be eaten on the day of its collection and only that day.

This truth continues to have relevance for those of us who live in the twenty-first century. The underlying principle is that God wants us to experience His goodness on a daily basis. Yesterday’s blessings were great while they lasted, but today is a new day.

Over the years I’ve met believers who were content with yesterday’s manna. They told me how God touched them in the past and met with them in intimate ways. Nevertheless, regardless of how great the past was, God still wants to work amongst His people today.

Maybe you, dear reader, were filled with the Holy Spirit fifteen years ago. But here’s the question I want to ask you: are you being filled with the Spirit today? Maybe you experienced great desire for the Lord’s presence a few months back. But again, are you still longing to contemplate the beauty of His glory as never before?

Christianity situates itself upon an ever ascending plane. It goes higher and higher from glory to glory. Yesterday’s experiences were great while they lasted. Of course they were! But today is today. There is still more of God available.

There are wells of living water waiting to be discovered. There is fresh manna everywhere. So go on! Start collecting! Start seeking and enjoy a new touch from heaven!

Thank you for yesterday’s manna, oh Lord, but please, give us fresh manna this day we pray!
