Is this mount Tabor the place where the Transfiguration of Jesus took place? (Mt. 17:1-9).

It is 588 metres high and stands on the southern edge of Lower Galilee. It was a sacred mountain for the Canaanites, and then also for the Northern Israelite tribes.

Poets and prophets, including the psalmist (89:13) and Jeremiah (46:18), drew inspiration from it.

Origen (248 AD) claims that it is the mountain where Jesus was transfigured. The Biblical text only refers to "the holy mountain" (2 Peter 1:18).

In my opinion, if this is not the mountain of the transfiguration, it deserves to be, because of the silence on its summit, because of the views from its watchtower, and the many major events that it has witnessed.

I climbed it some thirty years ago, but I took this photograph just a few days ago.
