“We stand up for our country and ask God for forgiveness. We want to go back to the Word of God”, say the organisers of the event, which follow all coronavirus measures.
About 1000 Christians from all over Switzerland gathered outdoors in Brugg (Aargau) on August 1 to pray for their country. The theme of this National Day of Prayer 2020 was “built on a rock”.
“We stand up for our country and ask God for forgiveness. That will be the focus of this year's prayer day. It is about us being built on rock, the Word of God”, Hans-Peter Lang, head of Prayer for Switzerland, said in a video message prior to the event.
The theme accompanied the prayers throughout the day and shaped the times of worship, prayer and penance.
“We do not want to be based on worldly security or on programs or whatever has worked. We want to go back to the Word of God, our life should be built on rocks and not on sand”, Elisabeth Abt, representative of Prayer for Switzerland, told Swiss news website Livenet.
Due to the coronairus, the number of participants was limited and coming to this National Day of Prayer could only be done after registration, to comply with the cantons of Aargau measures for events of up to 1,000 people.
The participants were divided into zones with a maximum capacity of one hundred people. They must remain there for the duration of the event, and wearing masks was strongly recommended when traveling outside these areas.
Furthermore, the person responsible for communication further explained that there was no transmission via live stream.
