UK evangelicals praying ahead of Brexit

Every Thursday, the Evangelical Alliance of the United Kingdom posts a prayer “to ask God for His peace, grace and guidance during a difficult time for our nation”.

On June 23, 2016, the UK voted to leave the European Union (52% to 48%). Since then, there have been many debates inside and outside the country about the Brexit.

Last November, Prime Minister Theresa May came back from Brussels with a draft exit deal with the EU, but the negotiations continue, and it is uncertain if the UK would leave the EU at 11pm London time on Friday, 29 March 2019, as it is scheduled.

In the midst of all this, the UK Evangelical Alliance (EAUK) has launched an initiative to pray for the Brexit process.

Each Thursday before 29 March 2019, they will post a new prayer for Brexit in the EAUK website.

“We would love for you to join with us in coming before God our Father to ask for His peace, grace and guidance during a difficult time for our nation”, the EAUK says.

Additionally, they “will also be working with other organisations and partners to serve the church as we unite in prayer at this key moment in history”.

You can read the prayers already published below:

Thursday, 7 February 2019

God in heaven,

We pray for our leaders, that you would give them wisdom and courage.

We pray for our neighbours, that we would be able to speak love and peace to them.

We pray for ourselves, that we would know you as our steadfast foundation.

Thursday, 31 January 2019

Almighty God, as we face the unknown, may your church be a place of peace and steadfast love.

Help your people to be kind, gracious and compassionate in our communities.

Give us your love for our neighbours and our nations.

Thursday, 24 January

In a time of uncertainty, may we have courage and peace.

Where there is division in our neighbourhoods, may we offer hope and reconciliation.

As many feel anger and fear, may the light of God enter our hearts.

Thursday, 17 January

Together we wait in prayerful hope for the Lord, our strength and shield.

Our hearts will rejoice when we trust in His holy name.

We call on the unfailing love of the of the Lord, as we wait in hope.

Thursday, 10 January

Let us pray for our politicians and civil servants across the political spectrum.

That God may bless them with His wisdom and revelation.

That His spirit of peace might be known throughout the decision-making process.
