Around 1,500 people gathered in Madrid on 7 Marhc for the Tarsis event, which focused on evangelism and apologetics, and aimed to motivate and train believers to share their faith in society today.

The gathering included presentations, times of worship led by Enoc Parra, interactive activities and spaces for dialogue, all with the aim of providing practical tools for evangelism.

Speakers included Marta Durán, Samuel Nielsen, Sarab Rey and Ángel Rodríguez Heredia, who addressed different aspects of communicating the gospel in the contemporary cultural context.

Durán opened the meeting by reflecting on the central message of the gospel and the urgency of evangelism, while Nielsen focused his presentation on dialogue with Islam. He offered insights into how to share the faith with people from Muslim backgrounds, as well as the most common mistakes in doing so.

Anthropologist Sarab Rey spoke about the phenomenon of alternative spiritualities and growing spiritual syncretism, a reality that is increasingly present in Spanish society.

Answering difficult questions

One of the most interactive moments of the event was a role play, where participants were given two-coloured cards to respond to questions displayed on a screen, simulating real-life conversations about faith.

The questions covered topics that often come up in discussions with non-believers, such as the problem of suffering and the relationship between Christianity and contemporary spiritual practices.

The activity allowed participants to confront common objections and practise how to respond from a Christian perspective before receiving further input from the leaders and pastors present at the meeting.

Open Q&A panel

In the afternoon, the four speakers took part in a panel discussion, moderated by singers Kike Pavón and Jaz Jacob, in which they answered questions submitted by the audience.

Attendees also had the opportunity to participate directly with open questions in a space aimed at encouraging active participation and the exchange of ideas.

Contextualising the gospel in Spain

The event was closed by Spanish evangelist Ángel Rodríguez Heredia, who stressed the importance of contextualising the Christian message in today's Spanish culture.

“We need to contextualise the gospel in Spain and learn to connect with the culture without falling into a religious subculture that separates us from society”, he said.

He also recalled the history of Protestantism in Spain, mentioning figures and movements from the Reformation to the Romani revival.

“Each generation writes a chapter of evangelical history in our country, and now it is our turn to write the next one”, concluded Heredia.

Prayer for Spain and closing concert

After his presentation, the attending pastors took to the stage holding the Spanish flag to pray for the country.

The event concluded with a concert by Niel González, accompanied by Kike Pavón and Jaz Jacob.

Speaking after the meeting, Heredia expressed his joy at the experience and his hope that this initiative could be replicated in other Spanish cities.
