Reaching further

In a year in which evangelicals felt the contempt of media outlets, we also see that others appreciate it when someone stands up for their beliefs. Readers have now the opportunity to support this work.

In recent days, following the election results in Brazil, social media has once again been flooded with prejudiced and misinformed messages about evangelicals. Even journalists and people with thousands of followers regard the presence of evangelicals in Spain as a “danger”.

This is nothing new. Something similar happened in May, when we entered a spiral of misinformation following the two major gatherings held in Madrid, the likes of which we as evangelicals had rarely experienced before.

Things got to the point where Ferede and the Spanish Evangelical Alliance issued separate statements, calling on the media to be more rigorous in their reporting.

That is why  news website Protestante Digital exists. Since 2003, we have sought to accurately convey who we evangelicals are in Spain: internally, to help believers reflect on current affairs through the lens of the Bible; and externally, to enable journalists, politicians, academics, and others to truly get to know us. We are a team of four journalists supported by over 1,300 contributors, and we work with limited resources.

It is not always easy. That is why I want to share something that has given us great encouragement.

Four organisations stepping up

Last Friday, the Christian Business Leaders (LEC) and the Maclellan foundation held the “Ciento x Uno” event in Guadalajara.

The event provided a platform for around twenty evangelical projects that are making a difference in Spain to present themselves. Four of these projects were voted by attendees as the top projects to give a special presentation during lunch: Decisión, Pontea, GBU (IFES Spain) and Protestante Digital.

It was a joy and an encouragement to be among them. In our own ways, we are all trying to stand up for evangelicals in Spain and spread the message of the gospel.

Seeing this recognised reminds us that although the environment can sometimes be hostile, we are not alone.

We are encouraged by the existence of Maclellan, a foundation that supports Christian projects around the world and has chosen to focus on Spain. But what truly makes us feel proud is the generosity of the people in that room. Local businesspeople and professionals who decided to support the projects presented.

What we want to do

We presented our project for 2027 there. Our articles work: they have led to corrections; they are read by pastors, journalists and politicians; and they become a reference when someone is looking for the truth about what happened. We want them to reach a wider audience.

That is why the core of the project is a complete renovation of our website, including a new content management system, greater flexibility in publishing and more opportunities to reach new audiences.

The new website will also allow us to integrate video and podcast content more effectively, which we plan to produce more regularly in 2027.

Through this, we also aim to strengthen the defence and presence of our evangelical identity in the media and political forums, a task that we are already undertaking.

An opportunity ending this week

We didn't want our readers to just hear about this as news. We want you to be able to get involved.

Until Sunday 11 October, the Maclellan Foundation will match every euro we receive. Anyone who donates 50 euros will ensure that 100 euros reach Protestante Digital. Donations can be made through this form.

Furthermore, Protestante Digital is part of the Areópago Protestante communications project, of which Evangelical Focus is also a member. Therefore, donations made through this campaign will also have a positive impact on Evangelical Focus and its growth.

Whenever people speak about evangelicals respectfully and based on facts, our churches and ministries benefit, as does the witness of every believer in their workplace and neighbourhood. That is what we do best. We would like to thank you in advance for helping us reach further.
