On 17th June, the Christian apologist and author will be interviewed in an online event as part of the Lausanne Europe agenda to prepare the November gathering in Poland.
Lausanne Europe prepares for a November gathering in Wisla, Poland, with some 800 evangelical leaders. On the agenda: How to do mission, evangelism, and discipleship in an increasingly secular Europe.
Impact Groups across the continent are meeting monthly to think through issues relevant to this agenda.
The topic for the June Conversation is apologetics.
On Thursday 17th June at 19.00h. CET, members of these groups and others will participate in an online event featuring the Oxford professor emeritus of mathematics John Lennox. He is a leading Christian apologist, author, and debater.
Lennox will be interviewed by Iain Morris, the producer of the newly released film “Against the Tide”, featuring the life and ministry of John Lennox. The online event is entitled “Engage with John Lennox. Christian Faith: True, Defensible and Worth Proclaiming”.
A key part of the event will consist of questions and comments from the Europe-wide audience.
Lars Dahle, chair of Lausanne Europe 20/21 Conversation and Gathering, explains the role of apologetics in Christian mission:
- We need apologetics in the pre-evangelistic context. We have the key tasks of setting the Christian faith on the agenda with creativity – and of answering questions with clarity.
- Apologetics is also needed in the evangelistic context. We are called to commend the faith, to paint a picture of why the Christian faith is true, beautiful, and good. And we need to clarify people’s objections to accepting Christ as Saviour and Lord.
- And then we also find that when people have become Christians, or as we are Christians, we all need to be affirmed and equipped in our faith.
People not involved in a Lausanne Impact Group can follow “Engage with John Lennox” on social media platforms. (More info here) They will also have the opportunity to contribute questions and comments through a chat room.
