Food and hope in rural Peru

In Huaraz, a rural city in Peru, the spread of the Covid-19 has become a serious threat to the health of already vulnerable families and individuals.

Turmanyé, a social project linked to the evangelical NGO Alianza Solidaria is working in the area for more than 20 years. They have now amplified their efforts preparing baskets of basic foods.

These have been distributed to 162 families at risk of social exclusion. The aid is distributed following the social distancing rules, and is targeting the families of children sponsored by donnors of the Turmanyé project and that are connected to one of the food and education programmes of the entity.

In a second phase, they hope to serve other families of “quechua communities that are not benefitting from the governmental aid”.

The Turmanyé team not only provides for basice needs, but seeks to have conversations with the users that may be of encouragement and hope in these times of crisis.
