The 54th General Assembly of the Organisation of American States (OAS) was held in Asunción, Paraguay, from 26-28 June.

Prior to the meeting, many pro-life coalitions strongly denounced the organisers for censoring the presence of three of them, despite the fact that they had been accepted and met all the requirements.

Pro-life youth letter

During the event, several young people personally handed over the Pro-Life Youth Letter to all the representatives of the 35 countries attending the assembly, including many ambassadors.

Santiago Peña, the president of Paraguay, was the first to receive it.

The Ibero-American Pro-Life Youth Letter is a document that reaffirms the fundamental rights of every individual, including the right to life from conception to natural death.

It was publicly issued for the first time in March 2024, during a meeting of young people at the Ibero-American Congress for Life and the Family held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.

A two-year work

The document was written by young people from 16 Latin American countries, mostly evangelical Christians, who are a reference in the continent, under the coordination of the Ibero-American Congress for Life and the Family.

They have worked for two years on its content, which addresses legal, political, social and ethical issues at the international level, with the aim of “breaking the silence” and giving “voice to those who have no voice”.

In addition to the right to life, it advocates for a life free of violence, equality before the law without distinction of gender, and religious freedom, among other essential rights.
