The Swiss Evangelical Alliance (SEA-RES) made public a survey which shows that a big majority of the population still believes that it is possible to have one partner for life, and to be sexually faithful.

The study was carried out by the GFS-ZRH agency, specialized in sociological research. According to their findings, 71% of Switzerland’s population thinks it is “important” to have a love relationship with one person, and being sexually faithful to this partner for life. 64% do not only think it is important, but also “possible”.

Only 7% responded saying this was “not important.” 22% of the surveyed were not sure.

Among those who consider themselves to be believers, 66% of the surveyed said staying with their partner for life was “very important” (compared to 29% of non-believers).

Among the young generation (18-39 years), the percentage of people who think it is “very important” to be faithful to their partner was only 20%,  whereas for 40-64 years the number raised to 40%, and for those older than 65 years, it was 62%.

SEA: INTERESTING RESULTS, BUT REALITY STILL DIFFICULT

The Evangelical Alliance in Switzerland was “delighted” about the fact that a majority of the population still believes in stable and faithful couples.

At the same time, they added that “the numbers do only show a part of reality. The number of marriages and partnerships which end prematurely shows us to which extent it is difficult to live according to our ideals.”

“This is one of the reasons why many evangelical churches and organizations active in work amoung ‘couples’ and ‘families’ are offering activities to prepare, support and heal relationships.”
