Official statistics in the UK show that about 700 children sought medical therapies for ‘gender confusion’ in 2014.
More and more children are seeking medical advice regarding their gender identity. Statistics from the United Kingdom quoted by Christian Concern show a very significative increase in the number of underage asking for 'gender confusion' treatments.
The Tavistock and Portman National Health Service (NHS) Trust is the only clinic in the UK that provides such treatment. It says referrals have risen from 139 in 2010 to 697 in 2014.
One doctor at the clinic has previously said that children as young as nine should be given puberty-blocking drugs.
“Children aren't able to drive until their 17, we can't vote until we're 18 and yet we are suggesting that children aged, perhaps 10, are able to make a decision to embark on a course that has huge consequences and significance and life changing implications”, said Andrew Marsh from Christian Concern to Biritish Pemier Radio.
MEDICAL EXPERTS ALERT ABOUT RISKS
There are serious doubts among medical professionals about the risks of taking such treatments so early in life. Studies show that the majority of children that seem to have “gender dysphoria” do not go on to become transgender when they reach adult life.
Research by TV broadcaster Sky News also found the number of adults undergoing gender reassignment procedures on the NHS has increased by 74% since 2002.
