Only two weeks before the general elections, the Spanish government uses the European Union Presidency to promote gender self-identification across the continent.

Medical experts, jurists, feminists, and faith groups oppose a law that allows teenagers aged 16 or more to change their legal gender without restrictions. Conversion therapies are to be punished with fines of up to 150,000 euros.

The Parliament passes the law with a majority of 198 votes. Dozens protested outside. Spain becomes the fourth European country and the sixth in the world to approve euthanasia.

A 2019 report of the Observatory for Religious and Conscience Freedom warns that the violent attacks against places of worship have increased.

Some political parties had asked the AEE to propose specific amendments to the law. The draft law would affect freedom of speech, the education of children and would put pressure on the media. 

The majority of the political parties voted in favour of the Bill that could endanger religious freedom. The ruling Conservatives (PP) confirmed their abstention.

The bill could be approved after the summer. A state agency would actively promote LGBT ideology in schools, workplaces, sport events and media. Anyone accused of discrimination will have to prove their innocence.

The PM gets one third of the votes and widens the distance with the Leftist parties. Agreement with other parties is still needed to end the half-year long political deadblock.

The results of the Spanish elections demand a deep change in the way of understanding politics.
