The book “Evangelicals in the new Era of Communication” addresses fake news, the use of social media, the handling of controversial issues and stereotypes about evangelicals, and the challenges of secular Europe.
The book Evangélicos en la era de la comunicación (Engish: “Evangelicals in the new era of communication”) has been released in Spanish in November 2019.
It is a joint work of the journalistic teams of Spanish news website Protestante Digital and English-speaking European website Evangelical Focus. The book - 88 pages - has been published by the Christian publishing house Andamio (Spain).
Throughout its 6 chapters, the book reflects on the current context of communication in Spain and Europe, aiming to provide Christians with tools in the area of journalism and media.
COMMUNICATION FROM A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE
The director of Protestante Digital, Daniel Hofkamp, writes the first section on social media, fake news and the response of Christians.
The director of Areopago Protestante (the media group that includes Evangelical Focus and Protestante Digital), Pedro Tarquis, has been in charge of the chapters on how to address controversial issues, and how to respond to stereotypes about evangelicals in the media.
Furthermore, Tarquis and Protestante Digital editor Jonatan Soriano have written the chapter The dialogue of God, Word, Kairós and Cronos.
The director of Evangelical Focus, Joel Forster, present the vision of a secularised continent, with a chapter entitled Europe: communicating in a hostile context.
The book finishes reflecting on the journalistic interview and the relational responsibility (Joantan Soriano).
“A POLYPHONIC WORK”
“It is the first time that a publication like this addressed about the current situation of media from a Christian perspective in Spain, beyond the practical and basic concepts of journalism”, Tarquis said.
According to the director of Areopago Protestante, the book “has the richness of being a polyphonic work, with authors who have different views, but all from a wide experience in the communication field, without losing the biblical reference in a current context”.
The book “delves into new issues such as fake news in social media. We are grateful that Andamio has had the vision of carring out this project”, Tarquis added.
The book is available on the Andamio website (in Spanish).
