It has become quite common for professional footballers to share their faith on social media, but lately some top clubs have also started to communicate on their official channels about how their players live out their faith.
The Brentford FC team of the UK Premier League has just released a report on its official website called Football and Faith, where it tells the faith journey of three of his players: Portuguese midfilder Fábio Carvalho, Brazilian forward Igor Thiago, and British midfilder Josh Dasilva.

The club underlines “how their shared Christian faith has helped them navigate adversity, support one another and find perspective beyond performances and results”.
In its publications, Brentford FC says Carvalho, Dasilva and Thiago form “a close-knit circle”. They pray, read the Bible together, and share key moments of their Christians lives, including the recent baptisms of Carvalho and Dasilva.
Some months ago, Chelsea Football Club also addressed on social media the importance of Christian faith for its British and French centre-backs: Trevoh Chalobah and Maxence Lacroix.
Both players express how faith has shaped their lives, it is the foundation of what they do, and helps them in the difficult times.
Clubs also share on their official accounts public statements about their faith made by players at the end of matches or in press conferences.
Everton FC posted declarations by Beto Bentuncal, the Portuguese striker who now plays for the Italian club Fiorentina, in which he stated that playing for the English club was a “gift from God”.

In the United Kingdom, the organisation Christians in Sports recently released a research about the presence of Christian messages across the top six tiers of men’s professional football in England and Wales.

According to its data, 75% of clubs recognised they have Christian players in their first-team squad, 40% regularly host Christian activities such as Bible studies and prayer meetings, and half of Premier League clubs reported regular Christian gatherings.
“In an environment where identity is constantly tested by success, failure and public scrutiny, many players are looking beyond football itself for meaning, purpose and security. Christianity is not disappearing from the professional game; it is far more present than most people realise”, said Graham Daniels, director of Christians in Sport.
