England retained the women's European Championship trophy after beating Spain on penalties to win the UEFA Women's EURO 2025 final.

Arsenal's striker, Chloe Kelly, scored the decisive penalty (3-1), following a 1-1 draw after extra time.

From ball girl to Euro Young Player “by the grace of God”

One of the English players who won the final is Christian forward Michelle Agyemang, who was also named UEFA’s Women’s EURO 2025 Young Player of the tournament.

Three years ago, Agyemang was a ball girl at Wembley, when Chloe Kelly scored in extra-time to win the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 final.

“It's just surreal… to have come so far this quickly,” she said. “It’s only by the grace of God… the teammates around me, the staff, the coaches, everyone's put in the effort to help me get me where I am and where the team is today”.

Grateful to God

“I thank God for where he has brought us as a team. It was so hard coming from a loss in the first game to this now but you know everything happens for a reason ... We have won, we are European champions”, she told the BBC after the final.

In the quarter finals, her goal against Sweden took the team to penalties. The Lionesses then went into the semis, where again she scored a critical equaliser in the 96th minute.

She then knelt on the grass with her hands raised and her eyes closed. During matches, she runs with a cross on her socks and also shows on Instagram what the Bible means to her.

After winning the European Championship title, she posted 1 Corinthians chapter 15, verse 57: “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through Jesus Christ, our Lord!”

On another occasion, she quoted Romans chapter 12, verse 12, which reads: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer”.
