Most of the players were born in Latin America. At the trophy ceremony, they prayed to “give honour and glory to God”.
Baseball is a very popular sport in the American continent, but in Europe it is still little followed.
On Sunday 1 October, the Spanish baseball team won the European Championship celebrated in the Czech Republic, a trophy it had not won for 68 years.

The final victory came in the last game when Spain beat Great Britain 11-2.
The selección española (national team) is made up of 25 players who have a unique characteristic: the vast majority are nationalised Spaniards from Latin American countries.
“Three are Spaniards born in Spain, and the rest of us come from Cuba, Venezuela, Dominican Republic”, explained the player of Dominican origin, Engel Beltré in an interview with the Spanish television channel Antena 3 .
This multicultural force has achieved victory despite the difficulties, such as that the majority play in professional teams outside Spain, where the sport is more settled.
After the victory, Beltré expressed the importance of faith for this team: “This victory is special, we always give 100%. Thanks to God we had the victory, God has given us the victory”.
After lifting the trophy, all the players, led by the captain, raised their hands “to give honour and glory to God”.
