In an online event organised by the FOCL, the Italian evangelical theologian will address issues such as the doctrines of the Catholic Church and the influence of Pope Francis.
“Is Roman Catholicism Preaching the Gospel? Why Not and Why It Does Matter”. This is the title of a 3-hour-long free master class offered by Italian theologian and Vatican expert Leonardo De Chirico.
The event will be held online on 17 April 2020 and it is part of the series of master classes organised by the Forum of Christian Leaders (FOCL), the movement that also organises the annual European Leadership Forum conference.
Chirico, who is an evangelical pastor in Rome and an author of Evangelical Focus, will address the following 5 issues: “Same Words, Same Gospel?”, “Why Roman and Why Catholicism?”, “Where Is the Roman Catholic Church Going with Pope Francis?”, “Can Evangelicals Be United with Rome?”, “Communicating the Gospel to Roman Catholics”.
The FOCL said: “In dealing with Roman Catholicism, especially in times of mounting ecumenical pressure, Evangelicals should attempt to go beyond superficial commonalities based on shared vocabulary. They should instead be aware of the internal theological framework of Roman Catholicism and try to understand it in the light of Scripture”.
Leonardo De Chirico is a lecturer of historical theology at Istituto di Formazione Evangelica e Documentazione in Padova (Italy), and the director of the Reformanda Initiative.
