I am listening to Revelation 21 which talks to me about God’s house, with its foundations of precious stones... I stop: - ‘Precious stones!’
(Unbelievable, isn’t it?!)
Armed with pickaxes and spades, I am digging, this time on my own, in the foundations of our new house and studio. I like doing this because, at the same time, the headphones over my ears read the Bible to me (I know, I already told you this...).
I’m sometimes very moved listening to Jesus’ words; I’m stirred on the inside, a bit like the ground I am working on... (my admiration for Jesus is... er!, how shall I put it... I love him!).
I am listening to Revelation 21 which talks to me about God’s house, with its foundations of precious stones...
I stop:
- ‘Precious stones!’
Around me there is nothing but mud!
Is it talking about stones like the ones the thieves of this world have their eyes on!?
Dig... dig...
I tell myself that Rose-Marie and Jonathan (this retired couple from my church) who came unexpectedly to help my wife decorate our future love-nest just overhead, are so precious...
Much more than any stone you find in the strong-boxes of UBS (the Swiss bank)!
Maybe it’s people like them who are the living stones of the kingdom of heaven... (?)
Dig... dig...
I am already so looking forward to living one day in the Lord’s house...
The morning after, on my prayer route, with its completely new cover of white snow, I leave marks of mud from my cellar wherever I walk...
Especially when I stumble (and in life, isn’t it at those moments that we most notice what our values are?).
Walk... walk...
- ‘Lord, may I do the same in my life: leave marks of the foundations of your Kingdom...’
On reaching my studio, my big boots are clean! But I am sure that the ‘Experts’ (even the ones from Miami) will easily find their way back to my house again...
