10 great Christmas doctrines

Ten key lessons from Christmas-time.

FRESH BREEZE AUTOR 18/Will_Graham 17 DE DICIEMBRE DE 2016 10:10 h

The blessed story of Christmas has so much to teach us.

Today we are going to mention ten great Christmas truths that we can all learn from Scripture.

1.- God fulfils all of His promises

God neither lies nor deceives. Throughout the Old Testament, the Lord had promised time and time again that He was to send the Messiah. He fulfilled His promise when baby Jesus was born of the virgin Mary by the power of the Spirit of God.

2.- God does miracles

We all know that virgins do not give birth. Nevertheless, the power of God is so unfathomably great that He can produce life where it is a blatant impossibility. Everything is possible for God. “Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14).

3.- God is Triune

The Christmas story reveals the fundamental doctrine of the Trinity. God the Father sends God the Son in the power of God the Spirit. The three members of the blessed Trinity were all involved in the incarnation of Christ the Saviour.

4.- Jesus is one hundred percent human

Since Jesus was born of the virgin, He is one hundred percent human with respect to His humanity. That is why the New Testament is a thoroughly anti-Gnostic document as it presupposes the full humanity of the Christ. John 1:14 says clearly: “And the Word was made flesh, and we behold His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth”.

5.- Jesus is one hundred percent divine

As well as being fully man, Jesus is simultaneously one hundred percent divine. The Saviour is a lot more than a mere teacher or prophet or priest chosen by God. Jesus is indeed the Second Person of the Trinity. We quote John again: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).

6.- It is right to worship Jesus

Due to the fact that Jesus is one hundred percent divine, there is no reason to not worship Him. Matthew tells us that the wise men from the East, “saw the young child with Mary His mother, and fell down, and worshipped Him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto Him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh” (Matthew 2:11).

7.- Human beings are sinners

Jesus came to the world because of human sin. If our forefather Adam had not fallen in the Garden then there would have been no need of redemption. Notwithstanding, since we all belong to a fallen and accursed race, we need deliverance.

8.- Jesus forgives sinners

On the basis of His perfect humanity and divinity on the one hand and His perfect work of redemption on the other, Jesus Christ is the only means of access to God the Father. Through Jesus’ substitutionary work of atonement on the cross, the forgiveness of God can reach fallen humanity. Jesus forgives! What a joyful Gospel! “And you shall call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).

9.- Jesus is hated in the world

Sadly the person of Christ has always been an object of hatred. As soon as Christ was born, Herod wanted to kill Him (Matthew 2:13). To this day, Jesus has innumerable enemies both within and without the visible church. Beyond the church we find many folk who are resolutely opposed to anything Christian whatsoever. Within the church, liberal theologians and believers have destroyed the biblical image of Christ, producing another false Jesus in their own image and likeness.

10.- God deserves all the glory

The key message of Christmas is the truth the Reformers rediscovered in the sixteenth century: Soli Deo gloria! In other words, to God alone be all the glory! As the angels sang in Luke 2:14: “Glory to God in the highest!” The birth of Jesus leads us to exalt the name of the Almighty.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, beloved readers!
