The Church of Scotland falls from 32% to 20% in only one decade. Roman Catholics represent 13% while “other Christians” remain at 5%.

The highest proportion of multi-faith households are in London and Cardiff. 7.5 million people did not have any religion.

Data from the 2021 Census show that the average age of Christians is now 51. For evangelical leaders, the figures are “a challenge, but also an opportunity”.

The official figure of the latest census shows that Cardiff is the only city with more than 5% of LGB+ people. Around 0.5% of the population identifies as transgender.

Christians are now a minority in England and Wales but this can be a great opportunity to speak up for Christianity as a positive force for public life.

According to the national census, over 45% of Northern Irish people identify with the Catholic faith, while 43.5% identify with one of the branches of Protestantism.

In a letter sent to census authorities, dozens of academics said they “are concerned that this will damage our ability to capture and remedy sex-based inequality”.
