The EPUdF approved same-sex marriage in 2015. Since then, some churches have left the denomination.

“The question of our reading of the Scriptures and the authority that we grant them is at stake”, says Pastor Caroline Bretones, one of the 250 members of the new movement. In May, the historic Protestant Church EPUdF voted to bless same-sex marriages.

Michael Oh, CEO of the Lausanne Movement reminded Christians “the need for faithful biblical teaching and faithful biblical living.”

CNEF director Clément Diedrichs tells Evangelical Focus: “The bad news became an opportunity to clarify who we are, the evangelical branch inside of Protestantism in France.”

Protestant churches which bless same-sex marriages miss “pastoral opportunity to help people discover God’s will”, says CNEF. Evangelicals are 70 per cent of practicing Protestants.
