Joint worship services in dozens of municipalities could be a catalyst for greater collaboration between churches on the ground, says the CNEF.

All kinds of “Célébrations” took place throughout France on 4 and 5 October, in a project to unite evangelical churches in towns and villages.
Promoted by the French Evangelical Alliance (CNEF), a total of 89 joint services were held on the same day to show that spiritual unity has practical effects on partnership in the field.
The goal was “to praise God and proclaim the Good News together”, and the evaluation is that it ended up being a “beautiful milestone in the unity of French evangelical Protestantism”.

Around half of the joint services took place between churches that had not experienced such an initiative before. On average, each event was co-organised by about eight different local churches in the same municipality.
“Unity and brotherhood in Christ are not empty words, but a reality that we can live together”, said the CNEF in summarising the events.
These public celebrations across France came after an autumn in which evangelicals have been the subject of debate in the media. Programmes such as Envoyé spécial on the public television channel France 2 have caused complaints for projecting accusations of psychological manipulation and homophobia onto French evangelicals.
A few weeks ago, the CNEF stated that these events were covered by journalists in order to show a more accurate picture of the French evangelical movement. This aim was achieved “in several cases”, they explain. This “curious approach that seeks to understand and describe our faith in Jesus Christ” is a cause for gratitude.
