Mission organisations in Romania joined to pray and partner together

Groups associated around Partners in Mission held the annual meeting to be equipped, share their ongoing mission projects and encourage one another.

Over 15 Christian Romanian mission organisations united around “Partners in Mission” (PIM), recently met in the central Romanian city of Sibiu, to discuss the revitalization of the missionary movement in the country.

“We initiated this consortium out of the desire to bring mission organisations together, since there is no single onethat can fulfill the entire spectrum of what mission means”, Gavril Moldovan, president of PIM, told Romanian broadcaster Alfa Omega TV.

They meet annually to share about ongoing projects and to encourage one another, in a space where “we have formed friendships and, in certain cases, even smaller partnerships between one, two, or even three organisations that have developed joint projects”, said Moldovan.

Equipped for the Great Commission

The gathering aims to equip missionaries, disciples, and local churches to help them fulfil the Great Commission better.

“What we seek is to understand God’s plan and how we, NGOs or Christian organizations, local churches, and target groups, can work together”, explained Valentin Hrihorciuc from the Kairos agency, a participant in the event.

Each Christian group in Romania “touches a certain group of people, or focuses on an essential aspect. And when you put all of them together, you realise that God has servants all over the world, in all areas, doing different things for Him”, pointed out Ana Moț from Kalahari New Hope.

Overcoming denominational barriers

The Alfa Omega TV report also discusses “the importance of overcoming denominational barriers when it comes to missions”.

For Ionică Zaharie, of Choose Life association, “being part of PIM has helped us be inspired. We were also able to form partnerships, especially in work with churches, where we try to help them develop their missionary side, to grow, to plant new churches”.

“The reason we are here at PIM is to create partnerships. At the same time, I believe it’s good to go beyond those doctrinal barriers, because we need to be united, and God is truly calling us to this”, added Samy Marius Pîrciu, from Corabia.

Unity in prayer

Beyond the presentation of projects, and the discussions about concrete actions that could be implemented, a common theme of the PIM meeting was the need for unity in prayer.

“Together we thought of forming a national chain of prayer to highlight the power that God has in every context of our country. But beyond that, we pray for missions, for churches to become living churches, to be engaged in spreading the Gospel throughout Romania, in all our communities”, underlined Cornel Boingeanu.

Narcis Vlașin, member of Frontiers, agreed that “the most important thing would indeed be to give new united breath to the desire of Romanians to get involved in missions, especially in the area of prayer”.

“We should establish a national Day of Prayer for Mission for Romanians from all evangelical denominations. I suggest that Pentecost could be such a day, when all organizations and churches in Romania would be informed, pray, get involved, and have specific activities on that day”, he added.
