The Genesis light show presents the first three days of the creation in a church in Berlin. It will also be in other European countries.
The Passionskirche (Passion church) in the German city of Berlin hosts the Genesis light show until August 28.
Genesis is an immersive experience that presents the first three days of the creation story with 360-degree projections and accompanying music.
It aims to “take the audience on an almost meditative journey of stunning visual effects”, and does not want to create a blockbuster with its art, but rather enables a contemplative, spiritual journey”, explained the organisers.
The first part of Genesis shows how light and darkness were separated, so that day and night could arise.
The projections concentrate primarily on the church ceiling and flow over the walls almost to the floor, where there are bean bag chairs and loungers for visitors, “in order to to enjoy the show in a relaxed manner”.
In the second part of the show, the audience observes how sky and water are separated creating the firmament and sea.
The last part of the light show accompanies the viewers in the formation of the mainland and its greening. A colorful flora grows on the walls of the Passion church and transforms it into a big jungle.
During the performance, the Genesis staff take advantage of the unique architecture of each church “to create a unique experience, the form always depends on the place”, they said.
“The entire ceiling and structures of the church were measured, calculated and dimensioned in advance so that the projection perfectly fits the proportions of the building”, added the staff.
After finishing in Berlin, the light show will also be presented in Leipzig, Lyon and London and “will look a little different everywhere”.
“And maybe at some point we will also see the last three days of the creation story in the magnificent guise of a church”, pointed out the organisers.
