International Spanish artist Marcos Vidal inspires his new song with the book of Daniel. “We are going to be accused of hate speech and that is where a Christian really has to decide whether he or she wants to pay that price or not”, he says.
Marcos Vidal, Spanish songwriter and one of the most recognised voices in Christian music among the Hispanic public, presented a new song titled Nosotros no (We are not).
With the emotion and forcefulness that characterises his music, the singer (who also pastors a large evangelical church in Madrid) remembers the example of three men who were willing to lose their lives to remain faithful to the principles of the Word of God.
The song has had over 100,000 views on Youtube in one week.
Vidal wrote the song based on the story of Shadrac, Meshach and Abed-nego in the book of the Bible Daniel, when they were ordered to bow down before a golden statue in Babylon. The title of the song evokes the response of the three Israelites: “We will not bow down”, which lead them to e thrown into a fiery furnace from whose flames God delivered them.
According to the artist, the hostile environment continues to be a reality nowadays. “Today we are not crucified, we are not thrown into a fiery furnace, at least in our Western societies. There are places in the world where, yes, Christians risk their lives for taking a stand against what society says. However, we are going to be bullied, we are going to be rejected. We are going to be repudiated for being different”, said Vidal.
Trends in society try to force Christian believers to see as “normal” certain concepts and ideas that are contrary to the Word of God, and adds that not “debasing the gospel” will be increasingly difficult and will require a commitment as radical as that of the three young Jews.
“We are going to be accused of hate speech, of being different, and that is where a Christian really has to decide whether he or she wants to pay that price or not”, reflects the Spanish artist. And concludes: “today, in the 21st century, it is important for Christians to know how to say: ‘sorry, we will not bow down’”.
