Dr Claudia Sheinbaum's inauguration ceremony on 2 October 2024 as the 66th Constitutional President of Mexico had at least three moments that are difficult to understand.
The first, in her speech in Congress when she said she was ‘a woman of faith’, she who has repeatedly said she is not a believer.
A second puzzling scene was with the former governor of Chiapas, Manuel Velasco. When she greeted him, the new president kissed his hand, which opens up a lot of speculation.
However, the most regrettable thing was the shamanic ceremony in the known as Plaza del Zócalo (Mexico DF's main Constitution Square) which turned it into a multitudinous ritual and was brodcast on national television.
Of course it violates the secular state, which a few hours earlier Sheinbaum promised to uphold and guarantee for all citizens. And I say that it promotes a religious preference because it was in no way a cultural event, but a religious one, and most seriously, it made spiritual pacts about Mexico that, from a Christian perspective, have very serious repercussions.
We pray for President Claudia Sheinbaum, even though her government has been marked negtively since its inception. And we pray that this term in power is redeemed in Jesus' name. We pray for the Church to be a Light over the darkness that hangs over our nation.
And we pray for Mexico! For as the words of the national anthem say, its eternal destiny by the finger of God is written.
